I received my BS and MS degree in Chemistry from South China University of Technology in 1986 and 1989. After staying in Sandoz (now Novatis) for one year, I joined the group of Prof. Andrea Vasella working on carbohydrate synthesis, and obtained a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from ETH-Zurich in 1996. After three years postdoctoral work at the Institute of Quantum Electronics at ETH-Zurich, I started as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Houston in 2000, and became an Associate Professor since 2006.
My research focuses on surface biofunctionalization of a variety of materials, including silicon, AFM tips, silicone (PDMS), Ti/Hap, fluorous polymers, decellularized ECM, and live cells.
